Police To Review UTC Sexual Assaults

Posted

The Chattanooga Police Department and officers from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga have agreed that both agencies will investigate sexual assault reports on campus.

The Chattanooga Times Free-Press reported that the two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday and agreed to investigate sexual assaults on campus together.

School and city officials said the agreement was designed to provide better resources to victims of assault, prevent potential attacks and educate students about the issue.

Chancellor Steve Angle said the school also used a $240,000 state grant to hire a new sergeant who will serve as a liaison between city and campus police.

Chattanooga police Chief Fred Fletcher said the agencies will work together to bridge gaps between the campus and the community.
