ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WTVF) — An elderly man, whom police say was shot and killed outside of his Antioch home, was the victim of a robbery from four-years-ago.
Metro Nashville police said 78-year-old Larry Claybaker was fatally shot outside his Sterry Court between midnight and 1 a.m. Sunday.
A neighbor found his body lying next to his car around 9 a.m. and called police.
Police said a vehicle, described as a small blue hatchback, possibly a Toyota, was seen driving away.
As of right now, investigators said they are considering robbery as a potential motive behind the shooting.
Back in July 2015, Claybaker was robbed by two juveniles in a parking lot on Lafayette Street. The then 74-year-old had a pistol on him and fired at the two, wounding one of the suspects.
He had a valid handgun carry permit and was not charged in the case.
Anyone with information on Claybaker’s murder was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. His shooting death is Nashville's 20th homicide of 2019.
