MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – An escapee from a Rutherford County correctional work center prompted a lockdown at Riverdale High School, Friday morning. The suspect has since been caught.

Officers with the Murfreesboro Police Department arrested the suspect shortly before noon after the inmate was able to escape from the Rutherford County Correctional Work Center.

Police said the man climbed over the correctional facility’s barbed wire fence.

The Rutherford County Schools Headquarters and Riverdale High School were placed on a precautionary lockdown as a result. Both are located not far from the facility, just off of Shelbyville Highway near Interstate 24.

Officials with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said the suspect was arrested shortly after his escape. The lockdown was lifted around noon.
