LEBANON, Tenn. (WTVF) — Wilson County School officials announced the suspension of all extracurricular competitions and performances due to the "rapid increase of COVID-19 cases" in Wilson County. However, practices and conditioning activities are still permitted with health protocols currently in place.

The announcement was posted Friday on the district's social media page. Activities will stop Mon., Dec. 21 and will last until Sun., Jan. 3, allowing them to resume Monday.

The change was made in an effort to minimize exposure for students, student athletes, coaches, support staff, parents and fans.

"We feel this action is necessary to help keep all parties involved safe during this time. We understand the disappointment that comes with this announcement, as this is an action we had hoped not to implement. However, community health and safety is crucial during this ongoing pandemic."

Any competitions or performances previously scheduled for Friday, December 18 or Saturday, December 19 will still take place.
