LENOIR, N.C. (AP) -- The widow of a man whose remains were believed to have been discovered in a North Carolina lake after he disappeared 43 years ago said her prayers have been answered.

Katie Shook and the rest of Amos Shook's family gathered for an emotional two-hour meeting with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office on Friday.

Many family members traveled from Tennessee to North Carolina for the meeting. According to reports, Shook’s daughter, who was 14 years old when he disappeared, has been living in Wilson County, Tennessee.

Shook said God answered her prayers because her husband's remains were found before she died.

Investigators on Tuesday pulled a car containing human remains believed to be those of Amos Shook from a lake in the foothills of the North Carolina mountains. Authorities said they’re awaiting the results of an autopsy by the state medical examiner's office to confirm the remains are those of Shook.
