An Indiana man was killed in an early-morning crash in Rutherford County.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday in eastbound lanes near Sam Ridley Parkway.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said a Ford pickup truck being driven by 44-year-old Christopher Kimbrough was traveling east when the vehicle veered off the roadway.

From there, Kimbrough reportedly overcorrected and struck a median wall.

Troopers said he then got out of the truck and went to the passenger side. A second vehicle, being driven by 84-year-old Raymond Rinkenberger - of Illinois - was unable to stop and struck the truck and Kimbrough.

Kimbrough was killed in the collision. Rinkenberger was injured and taken to an area hospital.

The roadway was shut down for several hours while officials remained on the scene but has since reopened. No charges would be filed in the case.
