A man has been arrested after a Nashville father stopped him from stealing a car with the victim’s 5-year-old son in the backseat.

The incident happened Tuesday at a Kroger gas station on Gallatin Pike in Madison.

According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville police, as the father got out of his car to pump gas, Bryant Burgess jumped into the driver seat and tried driving off.

The father took matters into his own hands and ran up to the driver's-side door, pulled it open, and forced Burgess to get out.

Police said Burgess ran away but they caught up with him about a half-mile down the road.

Burgess is facing several charges, including kidnapping and vehicle theft. They also said he admitted to drinking and is also charged with public intoxication.
