When we see the FBI in TV and movies, they're often portrayed as crime-fighting special agents. But there are many careers paths in the FBI and they want youngsters to know about them.

Justin Uppinghouse is the principal of Whitsitt Elementary School.

"So our school is transitioning to a STEAM magnet school next year," he said.

Uppinghouse invited the FBI's Nashville Resident Agency to the school's outdoor classroom as part of an enrichment opportunity.

"STEAM for us means science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics," he added.

Students ask questions, handle gear and learn about career paths they may otherwise overlook.

"Car mechanic or computer technician. Get them into robotics and engineering. [I'm] really hoping they get to see what it looks like from someone in the community," he said.
