After the disruptive and rowdy first debate, NewsChannel 5 spoke with a local etiquette instructor with Southern Grace etiquette, who says the debates may actually offer a teaching moment for parents on how we can all communicate better.

"I’m a mother, and I feel like its important to for me to teach my children how to communicate and how to the respect each other and how not to name call and not to interrupt, and how to respect even if you disagree with someone how to have a communication and still respect the other person even if you disagree," said instructor Abby Green.

But will the candidates follow that advice?

On Wednesday, President Trump voiced criticism about the Commission on Presidential Debates and the announced debate topics. He says they should focus more on Foreign Policy.

"I think it's very bad they're not talking about foreign affairs, they're supposed to be talking about foreign affairs," Trump said.

With Nashville in the middle of a COVID-19 spike, safety is a top priority for city officials. There will be a much smaller audience inside the debate hall, with social distancing in place and masks required for all attendees and audience members.

Officials have even gone as far as ensuring the candidates will have their own separate HVAC system near them so that they won’t be breathing each other's air.

The debate will air at 8 p.m. Thursday on NewsChannel 5. You can watch our extensive coverage of preparations on-air, online and on our streaming platforms, including Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.
