LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. – A fire at a home in Lawrence County has been ruled suspicious.

The fire happened at a home on Nixon Avenue Thursday after witnesses smelled smoke and saw flames in the rear of the structure.

Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly, but it did cause major damage to the structure, as well as to an adjacent residence.

Officials said the occupant of the home was out of town, and before witnesses smelled smoke, they saw a white female between 20-30 years of age walking between the two residences. She was spotted about 20-30 minutes before the fire.

They described the female as having shoulder-length brown hair in a ponytail. She was wearing white or khaki Capri-style pants and a light blue or lavender shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

Witnesses told officials the female was smoking at the time.

Investigators said they want to speak with anyone who may know the identity of this female or who might have seen her in that area between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Lawrenceburg Fire Department at (931) 762-9046 or the Lawrenceburg Police Department at (931) 762-2276.
