Montgomery County officials honored a hometown hero for saving a toddler who was left in a hot car.

Volunteer firefighter and  Fort Campbell combat medic Staff Sergeant James Munns received the "Lifesaver award" at the Montgomery County Commission Meeting.

Munns was in San Antonio for a military leadership course, and stopped by a store right before he got on a plane headed back to Tennessee.

That's when two women rushed inside with a toddler who had been forgotten in a hot car.

Munns treated the child until rescue crews got there. He said his time at Fort Campbell helped him prepare for those kinds of emergencies.
