The first African-American undergraduate student to graduate from Middle Tennessee State University has died.

Olivia Murray Woods passed away while at the Hickory Woods assisted living center, in La Vergne. She was 96 years old.

She received her Bachelor's in Education from MTSU in 1965, and her Master's in 1974. She went on to teach in Murfreesboro for 21 years until her retirement in 1986.
