NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Storm 5 Alert has been issued for Wednesday as rain totals remain well above normal and are expected to only rise as the week goes on.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for most of Middle Tennessee as they anticipate two rounds of heavy rain this week. The watch is in effect until Thursday morning.
An Areal Flood Watch was issued for several southern Kentucky counties through Thursday morning. Areal flooding is described as a large area of land experiencing steady rise in water (usually due to runoff).
The first round hit overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, prompting several Flash Flood Warnings across the area. The second round is expected to hit the region Friday through Sunday.
Each round of rain looks to bring two to four inches of rain; so totals by next Sunday could be up to five to seven inches.
