As Hurricane Matthew inched closer and closer to making landfall in Florida Thursday night as a category 4 storm, some residents along Florida's coast decided to tough it out and not evacuate, against the recommendations of safety officials.

"It's going to be one of the worst since 2004," Amanda Azar admitted, as she filled her own homemade sandbags along Melbourne Beach.  "It's going to be scary for sure, watching the weather and everything go down around us."

Nonetheless, Azar and her fiancé Tyler Jenkins decided to stay as the hurricane approached.

"It's always dangerous, but I'd rather be at home with all my stuff so we can have it taken care of the best we can," Jenkins said.

Still others heeded the warnings of public officials and boarded up the windows to their homes before deciding to evacuate.
