NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Former Metro Council Member Irvin C. "Rip" Ryman has died of cancer on Monday. He was 86 years old.
Ryman was elected in 2003 to represent the 10th district and served until 2011.
He was a Korean War veteran and is remembered for his great love for baseball, serving as the state director of Dixie Youth Baseball for 27 years and the president of the Old Timers Baseball Association.
He was honored with a Metro Council resolution earlier this year for his service to the city.
Mayor John Cooper shared his condolences with his family, calling him a diligent public servant.
Rip was also a great football athlete at East Nashville High School and a member of the Nashville Old Timers Baseball Association. My condolences to his family.
