A former Portland teacher who had sex with a 17-year-old student has asked for parole.
Sandy Binkley and her family went before a parole hearings officer Monday.
It was the third parole hearing since her 2009 conviction of two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.
Binkley told officers she has learned from her mistakes and thanked her family for standing by her.
Despite Hinkley's testimony, the officer decided to recommend that the full board deny Binkley's parole request for the remainder of her sentence.
The officer cited the severity of her crime as basis for denial, but, it was not a done deal. The full parole board still has to vote.
If parole is denied, Binkley will remain in prison until March of 2018.
