Former State Senator Joe Haynes is out of jail after being booked on sexual battery charges Monday.

A woman told police the 80-year-old tried to French kiss her and grabbed her buttocks during a meeting on July 25, 2016.

She was meeting with Haynes, who is an attorney, about legal matters related to the estate of her recently deceased mother. The pair was visiting the property when the alleged assault took place.

A weeks-long investigation by MNPD'S Sex Crimes Unit was forwarded to the District Attorney's office for review.

Given Mr. Haynes’ prominence, the police department says the Nashville District Attorney’s Office referred the file to another Tennessee prosecutor for independent consideration and review.

He was indicted by a Davidson County Grand Jury grand jury on sexual battery without consent Friday. The bond was set at $2,500.
