Former Springfield Athlete Sues School Board

A former Springfield High School baseball player has filed a lawsuit against the Robertson County Board of Education for $300,000.

The lawsuit states the school board did nothing after DeAngelo Jones went to administrators on several occasions to complain about racial bullying while on the baseball team, beginning in 2012.

According to the lawsuit,  Jones began to experience taunting of a racial nature and bullying from some of the white upperclassmen on the team.

In a statement from Jones' attorney, Larry Crain said he, "is only seeking to enforce his right to an education and an environment that is free of discrimination."

Last February, the State began its own investigation and found the district failed to properly investigate the claims.

A spokesperson for The Robertson County Board of Education said the lawsuit was with their attorney but they cannot comment on pending litigation.
