Fort Houston Opens Retail Space For Local Craftsmen

Fort Houston is a makerspace for artisans and woodworkers and now they're helping local craftsmen sell their goods by opening a new retail space.

For several years, the Fort Houston Campus has been a space to make and create. Now, they've added a retail shop called The Loading Dock to their campus so artists can bring their creations to market without ever leaving the building.

Jeff Estes is the CEO of Five Strings Furniture and the founder of the new space. Estes launched his business at Fort Houston and said this is his way of giving back.

"Fort Houston had this space become available and being really good friends with them from the past, we basically reached out and said ‘we have an idea. Put in retail, we'll stock it with a lot of our goods, and we'll highlight members from Fort Houston,’" he said.

This Saturday, Fort Houston will be having an open house to celebrate the new retail space. It's a free event starting at 6 p.m. and there will be drinks and snacks.
