Franklin Police Ask For Help In Cold Case Murder

Officials with the Franklin Police Department have asked for the public's help in remembering details surrounding a cold case murder from a quarter century ago.

Back in 1991, police said Peggy Cox was working a late-night shift at the Hardees Drive-thru on Murfreesboro Road, when someone placed an order, then drove up to her window, and gunned her down.

A Franklin Police detective has been assigned to her case and he says they continue to get new tips, but he said what's most troubling about the case, is it doesn't look like there was a motive for the crime.

25 years to the day of the murder, it remained the Franklin Police Department's only unsolved homicide, and the Franklin Police chief says someone must know something about what happened.

“She's working the night shift on her birthday, and someone comes along randomly,” said Chief Deborah Faulkner of the Franklin Police Department.  “It’s so tragic, you can't make any sense out of it.”

The Franklin Police Department has a special tip line that's been established just for the Peggy Cox Murder case -- that number is (615) 550-8404.
