MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The suspension of a Middle Tennessee State University fraternity chapter has been lifted after a full investigation.
The Theta-Omega chapter of the Sigma Pi fraternity had placed a banner in front of their house, with a controversial message on it.
The statement said the sign, which read "Freshman Girls Info Center.”
MTSU officials said the message was inconsistent with the University’s values. The sign was taken down within 30 minutes of it being on display.
The Sigma Pi national office released a statement Tuesday afternoon that said:
“Disciplinary action was taken in regards to the members who participated in the displaying of the banner, and the Chapter will be working closely with the MTSU June Anderson Center for Women and Nontraditional Students during the 2015-16 academic year in order to heighten sexual assault awareness on campus.”
When the incident happened, university spokesman, Jimmy Hart said the school would also conduct an investigation.
A fraternity at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, was suspended Monday in a similar case.
