Two men were placed behind bars after they were accused of stealing money from bank accounts at ATMs.

The men, identified as 39-year-old Dragos Diaconu (who had a French passport) and 35-year-old Daniel Gargarita (who had a Romanian passport), were charged with identity theft trafficking, felony theft, and criminal simulation.

Detectives said they believe the two used debit-type cards encoded with information of innocent people to steal money from bank accounts.

They were spotted on camera at First Tennessee Bank on Abbott Martin Road. Bank officials gave police a vehicle description, which led to the two arrests.

Police said $5,224 in cash and 32 debit-type cards were found in their vehicle.

Diaconu was being held in lieu of a $150,000 bond, and Gargarita was being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.

Assisting in the continuing investigation were officials from the United States Secret Service and U.S. Homeland Security.
