WHITE BLUFF, Tenn. - A Dickson County middle school principal was forced to spend the night on the school's roof, but it was all in good fun after she made a promise to students.
William James Principal, Jan Ford, told students she would sleep on the roof if they raised more than $5,000 for the school's annual fundraiser and that gave students a little extra encouragement.
They ended up raising more than $9,000.
So Ford climbed onto the roof after Thursday’s homecoming game and spent the entire night there despite the downpour in Dickson County.
She was able to make it a little more comfortable by sleeping on an air mattress under a tailgate tent, and she was still there when students arrived to school this morning.
“They would wave and the parents would wave,” said Ford talking about parents reaction to seeing her on the roof. “What is she doing up there?’ and they would tell them, oh well she had to sleep on the roof because we raised the money in the fundraiser."
All of the money raised was designated to go towards purchasing tablets and laptops for every student at the school.
