NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Two brothers have been arrested after they burglarized a funeral home on the 1500 block of Buchanan Street.

Police responded to a call Friday at S.A.G. Funeral Home. The owner - who both operates the funeral home and lives there - told police someone was breaking into the back garage door, which was unlocked. When officers arrived, they located Cornelius and Athonia Hudson nearby, police said.

The brothers were sitting by their vehicle, with funeral equipment in plain view in the back seat. They consented to a vehicle search, during which they found a backboard, a coffin cover and miscellaneous stainless steel funeral home tools.

The owner of the funeral home confirmed to police that the equipment belonged to him.

A witness said she saw one of the brothers on the front porch of the funeral home, while the other brother hauled the equipment away. Then, the brothers got in their car and drove across the street, where officers first saw them. The witness also told police that the only one she saw actively touching the equipment was Cornelius Hudson.

Athonia Hudson told police he never personally touched the equipment, and that he thought his brother worked at the funeral home.

The Hudson brothers were both arrested and charged for the burglary.
