GALLATIN, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Gallatin police officer who was hit by a vehicle on Friday afternoon is recovering at the hospital.
Officer Daniel Green was conducting a traffic stop with another officer on Highway 109, when a driver having a medical episode left the road and hit Green, Gallatin Police Chief Donald Brady said.
Green and the driver were taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center. The officer suffered a broken leg, requiring surgery, a lacerated spleen and a chipped pelvis.
Brady said Green will spend several more days in the hospital as he has a long road to recovery.
Gallatin Police say the road was shut down at the intersection of S. Water Avenue and Airport Road while police investigate the incident. The Tennessee Highway Patrol Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene to help in the investigation.
Police said the crash was not the fault of the driver, as they were experiencing a medical episode.
