NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Greater Nashville Regional Council hosted a forum on regional transportation to discuss a transit plan to reduce congestion.

The council is one of nine development districts across the state that serves as the primary forum for collaboration among mayors and county executives from 52 cities and 13 counties across Middle Tennessee.

Wednesday's forum kicked off the "development of Middle Tennessee Unified Plan for Transportation," meaning several city, state and transportation officials will begin working together to create a traffic plan.

Whatever plans are devised, technology will play a role. They plan to use traffic technology to pinpoint when and where backups and crashes happen most often.

It will also show how much time drivers waste on congested Tennessee roads.
