NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Gov. Bill Haslam has issued a writ of election to fill the state House seat vacated by new Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Ryan Haynes.
Haynes stepped down last month from the Knoxville seat after seven years in the Legislature following his election as party chairman.
Haslam in Monday's writ ordered the District 14 primary be held on Aug. 12 and the general election to be scheduled for Sept. 29.
Haynes was elected by the state GOP's executive committee to replace Chris Devaney, who stepped down just months into his fourth term to become executive director of the Chattanooga-based Children's Nutrition Program of Haiti.
