NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — With cold temperatures gripping Middle Tennessee, here’s a few tips to help protect your home from frozen pipes.
According to 2018 State Farm data, more than 800 claims were paid in Tennessee for winter water losses such as frozen pipes.
Here's some of their advice when temperatures drop:
- Run a trickle of hot and cold water – that might be all it takes to keep your pipes from freezing.
- Let warm water drip overnight, preferably from a faucet on an outside wall.
- Keep your thermostat set at the same temperature during both day and night.
- Open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to un-insulated pipes under sinks and appliances near exterior walls.
The first of two cold fronts arrived in Middle Tennessee Monday night, bringing frigid air and pockets of winter weather. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for the next few days.
