NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A hot chicken chain has been set to export the Nashville specialty to Alabama.

According to reports, Hattie B's Hot Chicken was set to expand to a third Nashville location and to Birmingham, Alabama, in the next year.

Born as cheap, flavorful fare for Nashville's working class community and offered late into the night for its party-goers, the city's signature dish has been embraced by country music stars, celebrity chefs and politicians. And the city's minor league baseball team has a hot chicken named Booster as its mascot.

Hot chicken has become more widely available outside the hole-in the-wall restaurants of its origin. Hattie B's has opened two locations in the affluent western section of the city, and its third was set to be located near the Nashville Sounds new baseball stadium.
