NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Service men and women face many challenges at home and abroad. Fighting for our freedoms is something that Jim Harbison knows all too well. He served 32 years in the military.
But there's another challenge the face after active duty. Harbison, the executive director of the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) says thousands of veterans come back to the states, struggling to find a place to call home.
That's where Curb Victory Hall comes in. Through a public and private partnership, the corner of 12th Avenue and Edgehill in Nashville will be transformed into a 39 unit development for veterans experiencing homelessness.
"We really owe it to them, since they sacrificed for us," said Harbison.
The housing property will be located on 1125 12th Avenue South, next to Operation Stand Down Tennessee. Veterans will not only have a roof over their heads but will also have special services available to them.
The development will involve several groups: Mayor David Briley’s Office, the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA), Operation Stand Down Tennessee, music industry executive and philanthropist Mike Curb, Giarratana, LLC, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and MDHA.
Construction is scheduled to be complete by next year with residents hopefully moving in by May 2020.
