A staff member of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission, Christopher Matthew Stephenson, was arrested and charged with several counts of sex crimes against a minor.

Stephenson is a Title VI Compliance Director for the commission, and has been employed with the HRC since 2010.

The 43-year-old man was charged with 1 count of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, 2 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

His bond was set for $500,000.

Executive Director Beverly Watts told NewsChannel 5 that the news of Stephenson's arrest came as a shock to the commission.

They were not notified, but rather heard of the news when the arrest was released by NewsChannel 5.

She said the HRC has never received any internal complaints on Stephenson. He was currently still employed, but the HRC would be going through the facts of the case before any action would be taken.
