NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A former Department of Human Services worker is accused of trying to coerce women into having sex with him in exchange for food assistance benefits.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, agents began investigating Alfred Awonuga in March after receiving information from Human Services.
In addition to attempting to exchange benefits for sex, Awonuga is also accused of giving benefits to a person who was ineligible.
When she declined to have sex with him, he terminated her benefits but told her he could reinstate them if she had sex with him, according to the TBI.
Awonuga was subsequently fired. He is charged with official misconduct and is being held in the Davidson County jail on $20,000 bond. Jail records do not indicate whether he has an attorney.
