NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Drivers need to pay attention for some changes coming to the massive road project on Interstate 440.
Lane shifts will begin Friday from I-65 all the way to Nolensville Pike – and with all the events going on in Nashville this weekend, expect to see some congestion.
Crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation will be taking out the median and breaking up concrete on the inside lanes before shifting the work to the outer lanes.
The purpose of the project is to make a new, safer median. The old one wasn't considered safe and cars were crossing over and getting into traffic going in the other direction.
Keep in mind, this is year-round project. Crews will be working around the clock, six days a week.
It might seem long but TDOT officials say it's worth it in the long run.
This work comes at a time with a lot going on this weekend in Music City. Both the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament and Saint Patrick's Day events are expected to draw a lot of people.
