NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Crews will close a portion of Interstate 65 next weekend in Nashville at the Wedgewood Avenue bridge to make repairs.

The closure goes into effect at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 and continues through Monday, Nov. 2 at 5 a.m.

Workers will be out replacing parts of the overpass and that means I-65 will shut down in both directions from the downtown loop to 440.

Northbound traffic will be routed on I-440 to I-40/I-24 (downtown interstate loop), southbound traffic will be routed on I-40/I-24 (downtown interstate loop) to I-440 and local traffic will be able to access I-65 via the Wedgewood on-ramps.

Some 130,000 cars travel over the Wedgewood Avenue overpass on I-65 on a normal day in downtown Nashville.

“This bridge was built in the 1970s and it basically needs some TLC we got to get in there and remove some bad parts of the deck. To get there, we have to mill off about 6 inches of asphalt so it’s a lot of work,” said Kathryn Schulte with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. While crews finish up some of this work in the spring, TDOT also plans to widen the I-65 South off-ramp to Wedgewood Avenue, adding an extra turn lane to help cut down on cars lining up on the ramp.
