Ind. Man Accused Of Beating Mother To Death In Hopkinsville

HOPKINSVILLE, Tenn. – An Indiana man has been accused of beating his mother to death at an apartment complex in Christian County, Kentucky.

Officials with the Hopkinsville Police Department said 29-year-old Jamal S. Mounts, of Evansville, Indiana, was taken into custody around 6:15 p.m. Saturday. He has been accused in the beating death of his mother, 65-year-old Roxie C. Mounts.

Police said they arrived at the Mason's Pointe Apartments on Elm Street in Hopkinsville and found the suspect assaulting 69-year-old Marvelyn Spay of Hopkinsville. They said Mounts was found unresponsive nearby. 

The suspect was later taken into custody.

Roxie Mounts was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police said she died from what appeared to be blunt force trauma.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Spray was transported to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center Emergency Room by ambulance.

Investigators said charges are currently pending against Mounts. The investigation remains ongoing.
