NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Despite the heat, hundreds of people in Nashville celebrated the first ever International Yoga Day.

Young and old flocked to Bicentennial Mall for a free yoga class Sunday.

Just last year, the U.N. General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.

Local organizers with Small World Yoga said you don't have to be flexible to do yoga, just willing.

"My first time doing yoga I had to several, several, several breaks,” said Jamal Hutchinson, a yoga instructor. “I was one of the guys that did not believe yoga was a workout. I was proved wrong. I thoroughly enjoy yoga."

Those with Small World Yoga said they hope to bring yoga to all communities of Nashville, including those underserved.

They have been working with schools, hospitals, and domestic violence shelters to offer free classes.

November 21 they planned to host the 3rd annual Music City Yoga Festival.
