The Pilgrimage Music and Arts Festival, with Justin Timberlake as one of the performers, has gotten underway in Franklin.

The two-day event, held at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin, has highlighted some of the biggest names in music, while also celebrating the area’s food and culture.

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder was also on this year’s lineup, in addition to Ryan Adams, The Avett Brothers, Fitz & The Tantrums, Gary Clark Jr., Mavis Staples, and Walk the Moon.

Festival organizers said they've always enlisted local artists to perform at the festival, as well, celebrating Middle Tennessee's musical talents. One of those acts is The Shadowboxers.

“There’s so much music all the time, but a lot of it is kind of compartmentalized," Adam Hoffman, member of The Shadowboxers, explained before the festival. "Indie rock has it’s own thing, country has it’s thing, pop has it’s thing, and Pilgrimage seems like a really cool way to bridge that and really like get the entire community at one event and really celebrate all the different types of music in this city.”

Reports stated that in 2016, 26 percent of festival-goers were from out of state.

Traffic was an issue for some festival goers on Saturday.

Nick May said, "Pilgrimage was quite a pilgrimage this year. We’ve come the past 2 years and this is definitely the most challenging time to get done here."

Some people biked or walked instead of dealing with backup.

The July-like heat didn't seem to curb attendance.

Peggy Hubbard Kingsbury said, "The paper said it was twice as big, I think it might be three times as big."

The festival was ongoing Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and was set to continue through Sunday.
