Kentucky COVID-19 update: 6,440 cases

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVF) — Governor Andy Beshear announced 158 new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky during his daily briefing Saturday.

This brings the state's total to 6,440 cases. He also announced 6 new deaths, for a total 304.

Yesterday a federal judge overturned enforcement of Governor Beshear's ban on in-person church gatherings. This allows houses of worship to meet now, while the governor's guidelines had advised them to wait until May 20.

The governor urged residents to be careful when deciding whether to return to in-person worship.

"What I ask is for people to take your time. You don't want your house of worship to be a place where the coronavirus is spread."

"To every house of worship...what we really need is, if you haven't read through all the guidance or you can't meet it: Don't come back just to come back. Make sure that your sanctuary is just that-- a place of safety and comfort for those that are there."
