CADIZ, Ky. (AP) — Authorities say Kentucky deputies shot and wounded a man who fired a gun at them.

A Kentucky State Police statement says Trigg County sheriff's deputies were responding Monday night to a report of a possible drunk driver. The statement says a preliminary investigation found that responding deputies located a male subject who brandished and then fired a gun.

Deputies returned fire, wounding him. Police say the man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting remains under investigation. No further information was immediately released.
