A family in La Vergne lost everything in a Thanksgiving weekend fire that destroyed their long time home.

It happened on November 25 at 4:30 p.m. According to La Vergne fire investigators, the house caught fire in a back bedroom due to an electrical failure. The house was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters reached the house.

Only one person was home at the time, but one of the family's three dogs did not make it out of the fire. All of the family's personal belongings were lost in the fire.

"My middle daughter was there," said Violet Johnson, the home's owner. "My grandson had just gone to the store to get food. When he get home, he saw the smoke, he saw the fire. She was already out of the house, but couldn't get the puppy out. She got two of the dogs out but couldn't get the puppy."

Since the fire, the family has had donations of clothing and furniture. Johnson has a temporary apartment she is staying in. Though, they created a GoFundMeto help with some of the expenses of tearing down the home or buying new medication.

"It wasn't much, but it was home," said Johnson. "We worked really hard to keep this and now it's gone."
