NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Lipsomb University is offering a free online class during the COVID-19 crisis to help people in the hospitality industry "retool and prepare for future job opportunities."

The spread of the Coronavirus prompted Tennessee's economy to halt, closing many hotels, bars, restaurants and entertainment venues across the state, putting thousands of people out of work.

The George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts’ School of Hospitality & Entertainment Management and Lipscomb Online are partnering to offer access to "Applied Organizing & Planning."

“We know that this is an extremely challenging time for so many who devote their careers to serving this city on a daily basis as part of our city’s hospitality industry,”said Mike Fernandez, dean of George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts. “As an institution that believes in the power of education and that has a desire to serve others at its core, this is a way that we can give back to our community and to serve these professionals during this time.”

The university says the course "focuses on establishing and communicating team priorities, training and developing others, how to reassess a situation to ensure correct priorities, time management, monitoring and prioritizing assignments and communicating changing goals or priorities to a team."

The course is free and a limited number of spots are available. Find more course and registration information at bit.ly/LipscombHospitality [bit.ly]. There are no textbook costs or other fees associated with the course. The class is taken at a student’s own pace over the course of a month and begins on May 4.
