Country music star Eric Church has penned a new song in honor of the victims of the Las Vegas massacre just days after the shooting left 58 people dead.
"Why Not Me" debuted during his show at the Grand Ole Opry on Wednesday, just three days after the shooting. Church also performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Friday night.
Before his performance, he gave an emotional speech about one of the victims who died, Sonny Melton, and his wife, Heather, who survived.
"I didn't want to be here tonight. I didn't want to play guitar," Church said. "I didn't want to walk on this stage, but last night, let me try to get this out, last night somebody sent me a video of a lady named Heather Melton and she was talking to Anderson Cooper on CNN and she had on our Church Choir shirt."
Melton said that she and Sonny came to Las Vegas to see Eric Church, who was Sonny's favorite. They were also supposed to go to the show at the Grand Ole Opry a couple of days later.
"And there's a, over here, section three, row F, if you're there in row F, there's some empty seats and that's their seats," he added. "I'm gonna tell you something, the reason I'm here, the reason I'm here tonight, is because of Heather Melton and her husband Sonny, who died, and every person that was there."
Church's performance was his last of the year, and he said when he saw what happened Sunday night, something broke in him, which led to him writing "Why Not Me."
"The only way I've ever fixed anything that's been broken in me is with music. So I wrote a song," he said.
