Coach Sam Smith White Creek High School was honored for years of service as a teacher, mentor and coach.
The White Creek High School track was named after the long-time coach.
For 36 years, Coach Smith dedicated his time and life to girls track, football and other sports.
Mayor Megan Barry honored the coach Friday with his own words.
It's a quote from you coach. "I see the need for structure in Children throughout the city and want to be an instrument in providing that structure for as many as I can,” said Barry.
Many of the people at the ceremony talked about the impact the coach had on their lives. Many of the girls he coached went on to college and are successful adults.
