Memphis police are at the scene of a fatal shooting Wednesday involving a police officer near a church south of downtown Memphis.
Dozens of people gathered near St. Andrew AME Church, some screaming expletives at police. More than two dozen marked and unmarked police cars lined the streets.
Dispatchers received a call just before 3 p.m. about the shooting. Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said no officers were shot but referred all other questions to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating.
The TBI sent a tweet a little after 6 p.m. saying one person was deceased.
People who identified themselves as relatives of the person who was shot were crying and hugging near the church.
Yellow police tape cordoned off a large portion of the scene.
