1 In Custody, Others Sought In Nashville Robbery Spree

Metro Nashville Police continue their search for robbery suspects after at least five businesses were targeted overnight.

Officers took one man into custody matching the suspect descriptions on Rosa L. Parks Blvd near the State Capitol early Tuesday.

NewsChannel 5 was on the scene as officers recovered a wad of cash in a nearby storm drain. Police took the suspect to the North Precinct to learn more information.

Detectives weren't sure if there's one or two groups of suspects. Police said armed robbers targeted at least five businesses: 

  • 10:06 p.m. - Family Dollar at Jefferson St and 26th Ave. N - Store robbed by two black males with a handgun and driving in a Silver Dodge Charger.
  • 10:30 p.m. - Sonic at 414 Donelson Pike - Attempted robbery by two men in a dark-colored Dodge Charger. Police say the robbery was a failed attempt because the door was locked.
  • 11:00 p.m. - Holiday Inn Express at 5556 Franklin Pike Circle - Two men jumped the counter and demanded money at gunpoint before leaving in a dark-colored Dodge Charger.
  • 12:23 a.m. - Shell at 4601 Alabama Ave - Two black males entered the store with a shotgun but the clerk locked himself in the back room. The suspects left after stealing either cigarettes or cigars.
  • 1:31 a.m. - Shell at 2112 Charlotte Ave - The clerk was outside on his break when two black males approached with a shotgun and demanded money. They stole cash and a drink before running away.

After the spree of robberies, police went to businesses open overnight to perform welfare checks.
