One man was killed and another was injured in a weekend crash in south Nashville.

The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday on Hopedale Drive.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the driver, 21-year-old Zeyad Hussein, was traveling too fast on a wet road when he lost control and struck a large brick mailbox.

His 18-year-old passenger, Riath Al-Shawi, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died early Monday.

Hussein was taken to Skyline Medical Center for treatment.

Police said neither man was wearing a seat belt. There was no indication at the scene of alcohol or drug involvement.
