One person has been killed in a crash on Interstate 24 in Coffee County.
The wreck involving two vehicles happened in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 99 around 1:15 a.m. Saturday.
Reports stated a 2001 Ford Ranger, driven by 23-year-old Zachary T. Kilburn, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he attempted to change lanes and clipped a tractor trailer, driven by 63-year-old Alton Loniie Phillips.
Kilburn then lost control, traveling through both lanes and crashing on right-hand shoulder of the interstate.
His passenger, identified as 24-year-old Karlea A. Hedgepath, died at the scene.
Kilburn was injured and flown to a hospital. His condition was unknown.
Officials confirmed Phillips was not injured in the crash.
According to reports, neither Kilburn nor Hedgepath were wearing a seatbelt. Authorities said they believed safety restraints would have made a difference in the wreck.
Criminal charges were pending in the crash. No further details were available as the investigation remained ongoing.
