Police have identified a man who was killed in a shooting in the James Cayce public housing development.

Authorities said 23-year-old Eric Gray was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire in the 700 block of South 7th Street around 10:15 p.m. Saturday.

Reports stated Gray was talking to individuals who were sitting in a car when two suspects began arguing with him from across the parking lot.

Two brothers, identified as 22-year-old Marris and 20-year-old Maurice Wynne, joined Gray in the parking lot. That’s when the argument escalated between the two groups.

Shots were exchanged, and police confirmed Gray was hit in the chest.

He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he passed away.

Officials said Maurice suffered a non-life threatening wound to his leg. Marris was not injured.

Police described the suspects as young men, possibly in their teens or 20’s. No further description was available.

Anyone with information on this fatal shooting has been urged to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
