Police have been investigating a fatal overnight shooting that happened in North Nashville.

Authorities said they responded to a shots fired called around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of Buena Vista Pike.

Witnesses said they heard about five shots, and when police arrived on scene the victim was lying on the ground with at least one gunshot wound to his stomach.

The man was identified as 30-year-old Terry D. Stewart. He had allegedly been standing with a group of people before the shooting, including one man who had been showing off a pistol.

Stewart was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later died.

Investigators were on the scene hoping to speak with witnesses, but at this time, no suspects have been named.

Officials said they were working on some possible leads.

Two men were pulled over about 30 minutes after the shooting for running a red light at Ewing Drive and Hillhurst Drive. Police said those two men have been interviewed and remained under investigation in connection to the shooting.

Officers have been unsuccessful in finding any shell casings, but they were able to find a bullet which they hope leads them to a suspect.

No identities or further details have been released. Anyone with information on this fatal shooting has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
