Man Arrested In Fatal Shooting On Capitol Point

One person was killed in an overnight shooting west of downtown Nashville.

The incident happened around 1:13 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Capitol Point.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department said they responded to the call and discovered a victim on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest. He has been identified as 27-year-old Jacquard Evans.

Evans was later pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police have since released they arrested 24-year-old Jonathan Hudspeth.

According to authorities Evans went to pick up his belongings, which his girlfriend had placed outside of the home on Capitol Point.

When Evans and his girlfriend got into a verbal fight that turned physical, Hudspeth became involved. Authorities confirmed Hudspeth is the brother of Evan's girlfriend.

Hudspeth was outside with an assault rifle when he saw Evans trip his sister causing her to fall to the ground.

That's when, police said, Hudspeth fired one round at Evans. He admitted to the shooting when interviewed by detectives.

Hudspeth has been charged with criminal homicide. He was being held in lieu of a $750,000 bond.
